“I believe in God”. These words are the foundation of all Religion. For those who choose to believe in God, some type of action is required to make God real to them. That action can be anything from just believing, to having an active, full participation in doing the will of God.
For some, believing in God is nothing more than an acknowledgement; believe and live on. This can be called Religion because it is a belief in a divine power. For others believing in God is an expression of such a belief in conduct and ritual 1. In this case one seeks information about God and how to profess the belief in God. This is practicing Religion.
Since believing in God is a choice, so also is choosing how to believe in God. It is a matter of Faith. No man has seen God2. At least there is no man who can prove that he has seen God. Many say they know God. In any case, knowing God and believing in God is based on Faith. With Faith we make a final choice of how to believe in God so we may achieve the ultimate goal of Self Love; eternal life with God. We choose a way to love God and pray that it is the best way that he will love us back.
How then is the best way to love God? We can make up our own way to love God but the chance that we follow the right path is less likely than winning the lottery. So we mostly look for help from some known source. For most of us, the faith we choose is based on being taught by those we trust. It may be our parents. It could be someone else. Ultimately we learn and begin to follow a belief that was, at some point, provided by those called “Prophets”3. We believe that God speaks to us through the Prophets. There have been many Prophets and they have many different views about God throughout history. Which Prophet to believe is the question. Think now about the religion in which you believe. Who is the profit who credits his information to God? The next post will take a look at the Prophets.
This second post is intended to explain on the simplest level, how we decide which God to believe in. Following posts will build from this post to bring further understanding to those who desire to know God and bring Him into their lives.
1.Webster: belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshiped as the creator and ruler of the universe,
